Lauren Green is a Mentor Coach in Prisma’s Middle School Program who started in the 22-23 school year.

Where are you based? 

I am based in Wichita, KS.  We recently moved from farm land to the neighborhood I grew up in, overlooking my childhood home.  

Tell us a little bit about your background in education prior to joining Prisma. 

This will be my 17th year of teaching, and I have loved every step of the way! I went to school at the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk Jayhawk). I earned a Bachelors in Elementary Education, a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, and have an endorsement in both English as a Second Language and Mathematics. 

What is your favorite part about your role at Prisma?

Being a learning coach at Prisma is so rewarding! The connections I make with learners is my favorite part of my job. The curriculum at Prisma allows time to get to know learners on a deeper level than I ever had the chance to do in a brick and mortar school. I leave almost every workshop with sore cheeks from smiling so much.  

Your Cooking enrichment has been one of the most popular this year! Tell us a little bit about why you chose to run that enrichment and what you’ve learned. 

I chose to run a cooking enrichment this past year as a goal to try new things myself. It has been a joke in my own family how little I cook, or how many mistakes I make when I do. My husband still makes fun of me for the time I subbed sweetened condensed milk for evaporated milk in a chicken casserole. Candied chicken and rice was not requested again! Thankfully, I spent an entire year learning new recipes and enjoying time in the kitchen with our learners, so I’m moving up in the chef’s standings! 

If you could pick one skill that all kids should master to prepare for the world of the future, what would it be and why? 

Every kid should learn to master the skill of problem solving. The world is full of twists and turns, and learning how to navigate when things get bumpy is a skill that everyone needs. 

What do you like to learn about, or what is something new you learned recently? 

I was never interested in learning about history as a student, but I find it so fascinating now. During our What If? theme last year, learners explored alternative history timelines. I learned so much through them and was diving into research right along with them!
